CROATIAN ARTIST AT WEILL RECITAL HALL AT CARNEGIE HALL
Posted on November 11, 2017
At Carnegie Hall on October 24, singer and composer Astrid Kuljanic performed a concert with her band Transatlantic Exploration Company for the release of her album Riva. Besides Astrid, Transatlantic Exploration Company is comprised of accordionist and native New Yorker Ben Rosenblum, bassist Mat Muntz of Seattle, WA, and Brazilian percussionist Rogerio Boccato. The sold out crowd at Weill Recital Hall (which included the consuls of both Croatia and Serbia) was treated to Astrid’s original music, as well as jazz standards, folk tunes from Croatia, and the music of Brazil. Musical guests featured on the concert included Asaran Earth Trio, Hrvatska Ruza folklore ensemble, Rosa vocal ensemble, saxophonist Elijah Shiffer, and violinist Ben Sutin. In addition to music, the concert also showcased handcrafted Croatian wool. Vesna Jakic’s skillful hands were responsible for the design and production of two handmade wool dresses worn by Astrid during the performance, as well as woolen flowers available for purchase in the lobby. Each flower bore a link to download Astrid’s album “Riva”. This memorable celebration of Astrid’s music and Croatian culture concluded with an enthusiastic standing ovation.
